As this was the first workshop with this particular group, our main focus was giving them an opportunity to meet other peers that used hearing aids and cochlear implants and to get to know one another. We were joined by 13 primary-aged deaf pupils from around 5 different primary schools and it was wonderful to see how well they all worked together.
We began by delivering 'games' that involved finding out about one another, discovering what we had in common and what made us all unique. This was all wrapped up in learning skills to help us better remember facts and information. We were then joined by a local audiologist who taught us about how the ear works and gave us all some impression material for us to shape and mould ourselves.
As one ToD said:
"Thank you for leading a rather brilliant session for the Chesterfield Juniors! Some of the children were well out of their comfort zone at first, but rose to the challenge! You made them feel at ease with the fun, informative and so very relevant activities. The children responded positively and would clearly like more of the same!"
If you are looking for someone to deliver a workshop to your school, either to support the social development of your D/deaf pupils or to raise Deaf Awareness in your hearing pupils, then please do get in touch!
